9 to 5
Based on the beloved 1980 Dolly Parton movie, 9 to 5 pits three capable businesswomen against their sexist, philandering boss as they prove that sometimes big business needs a woman’s touch. New hire Judy is entering the workforce for the first time after a devastating divorce; old hand Violet is a single mom running time and again into the glass ceiling; and secretary Doralee is a “backwoods Barbie” lusted over by her boss and hated by her coworkers even though she remains true to her husband. When Violet accidentally almost poisons the boss, the three band together and kidnap him to cover it up, pretending that he is still in his office as they run the company in his place and keep him tied up in his house. When he eventually breaks free they think they’re doomed, but the increased productivity of the office under the girls’ leadership and a timely intervention by the president of the company leads to a happy ending for all.
