About This Show
Tuck Everlasting, the award-winning modern day classic novel, has been a dynamic presence in children’s literature since it was first published in 1975. It follows the story of how 10-year old Winnie runs away from home and stumbles upon the Tuck family in the woods that her family owns but never enters. In an effort to protect their secret, the Tucks welcome Winnie into their home and explain how for 87 years they have not aged because they drank water from an immortal spring in the woods. Winnie grows fond of the family, and Angus, the patriarch, urges her not to drink from the spring, but she is obviously torn. When an unannounced visitor starts creeping around the woods, he sees Winnie and promptly tells her family where she is. He brings the constable with him to retrieve her, and after learning of the spring, he threatens to share the family’s immortal secret publicly. Before he can, Angus’ wife, Mae, clouts him over the head. He later dies and since this happens in front of the constable, she is jailed and will be hanged for murder. An execution attempt will surely uncover their secret, and a jailbreak follows. Winnie hides in Mae’s cell to give the Tucks time to flee. Decades later, Mae and Angus return to find the woods bulldozed and turned into a gas station, and visits Winnie’s grave.
